Changan Automobile launched its premium electric vehicle brand Avatr in Thailand, showcasing the 011 SUV coupe, while investing $300 million in a local assembly plant to enhance its market presence.
This week, the state-owned Chinese automaker Changan Automobile Company introduced its premium battery electric vehicle (BEV) brand, Avatr, in Thailand, marking a significant step in its international expansion in the face of intensifying competition within its home market.
At an event held in Bangkok, Avatr showcased its 011 SUV coupe which comes with a choice of 90kW and 117kW CATL battery packs and features Huawei’s advanced driving solution (ADS) driver assist system.
Changan has established its presence in Thailand, primarily under its Deepal brand, launching the SL03 and S07 models at the end of the previous year, followed by the Lumin L earlier this year. In the first half of 2024, the company achieved sales of 3,200 vehicles in Thailand, all of which were imported from China.
Changan is investing THB10bn (US$300m) in an assembly plant in Thailand’s Rayong eastern economic corridor which is scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of 2025. The facility, the company’s first in south east Asia, will have painting facilities, final assembly lines and battery assembly operations.
