There is a new men’s world number one as Shi Yuqi finally knocks Viktor Axelsen off the top spot after over two and a half years – 132 weeks – consecutively at the top for the Dane. The last time Axelsen was not ranked top was the week of 23 November 2021, when Japan’s Momota Kento held top spot for the last time.

Shi’s rise to the top comes off the back of consecutive tournament wins at the Singapore Open and Indonesia Open for the People’s Republic of China shuttler, while Axelsen was forced to withdraw from the Indonesia Open with injury.

Meanwhile, An Seyoung extended her reign as women’s singles world number one to 46 consecutive weeks.
